Building Based-Math Coach

The Alabama Numeracy Act (ANA) has been established to implement steps to improve mathematics proficiency of public school K-5 grade students and to ensure that those students are proficient in math at or above grade level by the end of fifth grade by monitoring the progression of each student from one grade level to another.

Anniston City Schools' has a Building Based Math Coach at Cobb Preparatory Academy, Golden Springs Elementary, and Randolph Park Elementary.

The Building Based Math Coaches are dedicated to enhancing instruction, particularly in Tier 1, to prevent students from falling behind. This involves working closely with the school principal and faculty to develop and execute a strategic plan for coaching and mathematics instruction, ultimately aiming to improve student achievement in mathematics.

Math Coaches lead schoolwide professional development in mathematics, providing on-the-job support through coaching strategies such as collaborative lesson planning, lesson modeling, co-teaching, targeted observation for data collection, and post-lesson debriefing. Additionally, they demonstrate evidence-based mathematics instructional and intervention strategies for teachers.
